This type of walking stick usually features a small, round, typically plastic seat and three legs. When unfolded into a seating position, the seat folds down and the legs are splayed in a tripod orientation.

Pros: Lightweight, easy to carry, hard plastic seat offers good support.
Cons: Less stable to sit on, particularly on uneven ground.

Four Leg Design

This type of walking stick has four legs and a fabric seat.  When used for sitting, the fabric is stretched between the two handles and becomes a seat, similar to unfolding a camping chair.

Walking sticks with seats are an excellent mobility option for those who don’t need the full support of a walker or rollator to get around, but still want the ability to sit down wherever and whenever they may feel the need to. 

This can include people such as the elderly, people recovering from surgery, people with limited mobility, people who have a physical disability, or those who get out of breath while walking and need to sit down. 

One thing to keep in mind is that a walking stick with a seat is generally designed for temporary sitting only. 

This is because the seats are made as small as possible in order to keep the walking stick portable and lightweight. This in turn doesn’t provide a study or supportive chair over long periods of time.

As such, I only recommend walking sticks with seats for those who need a light level of support when out and about.

Ok, let’s get into it! Here are my reviews of the top walking sticks with seats available on the market today.

Drive Devilbiss Cane Seat

If you’re looking for an extremely affordable tripod cane seat that gets the job done, the Devilbiss Cane Seat is the one I’d recommend. 

I like it’s simple, no frills design, and it’s very sturdy and easy to walk with. It’s also easy to adjust the length of the legs for sitting or walking. 

It is heavier than the other cane seats reviewed in this article, which is something to consider if the user loses their balance easily or struggles to carry heavy objects. 

In this case, I would recommend investing a little bit more money to get a lighter cane seat. 

However if the slightly heavier weight isn’t an issue and you want a cane seat that’s excellent value for money, definitely check out the Devilbiss Cane Seat.

Kmina Pro Walking Stick with Seat

Unlike the rest of the cane seats I’ve reviewed in this article, the Kmina Pro is made of carbon fibre, not aluminium.

Carbon fibre is stronger and more lightweight than aluminium, making this cane seat extremely durable and easy to carry. 

This is great for users who may be unsteady on their feet or don’t want to carry a heavy cane around. 

I think this has the added bonus of making the Kmina Pro very easy to travel with, as it won’t weigh down your baggage and is resistant to damage. 

Of course, the benefits of carbon fibre come at a cost, and the Kmina Pro is more expensive than the other cane seats I’ve reviewed in this article.

However, if you’re after a super lightweight cane seat, I think the investment is well worth it.

Lingthin Walking Stick with Seat

If you’re looking for a mid-tier walking stick with seat that can accommodate heavier users, the Lingthin is the model I’d recommend.

With a max user weight of 120kg, it’s got the heaviest user capacity of all the cane seats I’ve reviewed in this article.

It’s also got the largest seat of the tripod models, which gives the user better support and comfort when sitting. 

At just over 1kg in weight, this model is also surprisingly lightweight, making it easy to walk around with.

I think for what you get, the Lingthin is very reasonably priced, and is a great investment if you would like the extra seat size and weight capacity.

Country Classics Folding Stool

I personally feel that folding walking sticks with seats can be more cumbersome to walk with than their tripod counterparts.

However, that’s not the case with this Country Classics model.

At just under 1kg in weight, this walking stick with seat is extremely lightweight, making it incredibly easy to walk with.

I’m actually amazed that it’s practically the same weight as the Kmina Pro Carbon Fibre tripod cane seat reviewed above, considering that the Country Classics is made of aluminium.

However unlike the Kmina Pro, the four leg orientation of this Country Classics seat gives better stability when sitting, particularly on uneven terrain.

The Country Classics model is also unbelievably affordable. 

If you want a really affordable but lightweight cane seat and don’t mind the folding design, I think the Country Classics is an excellent buy.

What To Look For When Choosing A Walking Stick With Seat

Type of Walking Stick

As mentioned above, there are two types of walking sticks with seats available on the market: A tripod or 4 leg design.

I recommend the tripod design if you:

• Want a lightweight walking stick
• Are more likely to sit on even ground, such as in a shopping centre
• Want a hard/plastic seat

I recommend the four leg design if you:

• Don’t mind carrying a walking stick that’s a little more heavy and cumbersome
• Are more likely to sit on uneven ground such as in a park
• Feel comfortable and secure sitting on a seat made of fabric

The right option for you will depend on your specific needs.

Weight

Always check the weight of the walking stick before purchasing to ensure it won’t be too heavy to carry around.

Using a walking stick that is too heavy for the user can be cumbersome and tiring, and may cause them to be more unsteady on their feet than if they were walking without it.

Max User Weight

Ensure that the walking stick you select can comfortably accommodate the user’s weight.

This is extremely important from a safety standpoint, as the walking stick may tip over or collapse if used by someone over the weight capacity.

Seat Size

Double check the dimensions of the seat before making a purchase to ensure the user will be able to comfortably sit on it.
